Language

Language is what Nephi called “the language of my father,” consisting of “the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians” (1 Nephi 1:2). Nephi said that obtaining the records would preserve for his children “the language of our fathers” (1 Nephi 3:19).

Mosiah found a people whose language “had become corrupted,” and neither Mosiah nor his people could understand them. Mosiah caused them to be taught “in his language,” after which Zarahemla gave a genealogy of his fathers from memory (Omni 1:17-18).

A father caused Mosiah, Helorum, and Helaman to be taught “in all the language of his fathers.” He said that Lehi had been taught “in the language of the Egyptians,” enabling him to read the engravings on the plates of brass and teach his children (Mosiah 1:2-4).
