Shule

Shule was born during the period when his father, Kib, was held captive by Corihor, Shule’s rebellious elder brother. Despite the strife within his family and the challenges of his father’s captivity, Shule rose to prominence by showing exceptional strength and judgment (Ether 7:7-8). He would go on to forge swords of steel, leading those loyal to him against Corihor, ultimately overthrowing him and restoring Kib to his throne (Ether 7:9). In recognition of his valor and leadership, Kib bequeathed the kingdom to Shule.

As king, Shule was esteemed for his righteousness and for leading his people to prosperity (Ether 7:11). He fathered many sons and daughters (Ether 7:12), including Omer, who eventually succeeded him. Shule demonstrated both clemency and wisdom by granting Corihor authority within his kingdom following Corihor’s repentance (Ether 7:13).

However, peace was not constant during Shule’s reign. Nitrogen, Noah, another of Corihor’s sons, rebelled against Shule, seizing a part of the kingdom and holding Shule captive with intent to execute him. Shule’s sons thwarted this plan by assassinating Noah and liberating their father (Ether 7:14-18). Conflict continued with Cohor, Noah’s son, until Shule defeated and killed him in battle (Ether 7:21). Following this victory, Nimrod, the son of Cohor, surrendered his father’s kingdom to Shule, consolidating Shule’s control and earning his favor (Ether 7:22).

During his rule, Shule also proved himself a protector of religious freedom and the prophets. When prophets were sent warning the people to repent of their wickedness and idolatry, Shule responded by enacting laws to protect them from persecution, which contributed to the repentance of the population (Ether 7:23-25). Known as a just, righteous king and a mighty warrior, Shule maintained peace and righteousness in his kingdom throughout the remainder of his days (Ether 7:27). His legacy continued through his son Omer, who inherited the throne and reigned in his stead (Ether 8:1).
