Kim, a Jaredite king, reigned during the era typified by a succession of monarchs leading from Jared, the progenitor of the Jaredite lineage, to Ether, the final prophet of their civilization. He succeeded his father, Morianton, and became king, ruling for a period of eight years. Despite the longevity of his father’s reign, Kim’s administration was marked by unrighteousness; he was noted for not being favored by the Lord because of his inability or unwillingness to govern in accordance with divine will (Ether 10:13).
His reign was abruptly ended when his own brother instigated a rebellion against him, seizing and maintaining control over him through captivity. This internecine strife had lasting consequences, as Kim remained a prisoner for all his days henceforth. Despite these unforgiving circumstances, Kim’s life continued within the confines of his captivity; he fathered sons and daughters. In his later years, while still in captivity, he begat Levi (Ether 10:14), who would eventually rise to reclaim the kingdom and rule righteously. Kim’s passing is recorded without fanfare, his death marking the end of his personal turmoil and the difficult chapter of his kingship in Jaredite history.
