Emron

Emron was a Nephite soldier who is briefly mentioned in the Book of Mormon during one of the final conflicts between the Nephites and the Lamanites. Recognized by his leader Mormon as one of the “choice men,” his death was notable enough to be included in the lamentations of those lost in battle. Emron, along with companions Archeantus and Luram, fell by the sword in what is described as a “sore battle” with the Lamanites. This conflict, wherein they did not conquer, is indicative of the increasing desperation and ultimate decline of the Nephite nation. Mormon communicated news of Emron’s death to his son Moroni, who was also a military leader and a record keeper of the Nephite people during this tumultuous period (Moroni 9:2). Emron’s valor and the mention of his passing serve to illustrate the heavy toll that the protracted and bloody wars had on the Nephite society.
