Lamanite Great Spirit is the being whom Lamoni identified with the powerful servant Ammon and whom Lamoni said his fathers had spoken of. After hearing of Ammon’s defense of the flocks, Lamoni asked, “is not this the Great Spirit” who sent punishments because of murders (Alma 18:2-3)?. Lamoni then said, “Now I know that it is the Great Spirit,” and feared that he had done wrong in slaying his servants (Alma 18:4-5).
Lamoni desired that Ammon come in to him, saying, “I surely know that this is the Great Spirit,” though he did not dare invite him (Alma 18:11). Among the people, some said Ammon was the Great Spirit, while others said he had been sent by the Great Spirit to afflict them (Alma 19:25-27). When Aaron taught another king, the king asked whether God was the Great Spirit who brought their fathers from Jerusalem, and Aaron answered that he “created all things both in heaven and in earth” (Alma 22:9-11).
