Ass is an animal found in the land of promise among “beasts in the forests of every kind,” listed with “the cow and the ox, and the ass and the horse” (1 Nephi 18:25).
A man is asked whether he would keep “an ass which belongeth to his neighbor.” He would not suffer it to feed among his flocks, but would “drive him away, and cast him out” (Mosiah 5:14).
The commandment states, “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s” ass. Burdens would be lashed upon their backs, and they would be “driven before like a dumb ass” (Mosiah 13:24; Mosiah 12:5).
